Residence card photo — 684 × 883 pixels for MOS / inPOL

WayPass is a free online tool for karta pobytu (residence card) photos. How it works — 3 steps

  1. Upload a photo. Click “Choose file” or drag a photo straight onto the page. We support JPG, PNG, HEIC (iPhone photos), WEBP and AVIF.
  2. Adjust the frame. WayPass detects the face and sets the crop to MOS requirements. You can adjust zoom, rotation and position by hand — the tool checks head size and framing as you go.

Common mistakes — why MOS rejects photos

Want your photo to look professional?

No good photo on hand? Create a studio-quality portrait in a moment with ChatGPT or Gemini, then finish it here.

  1. Take a photo with your phone against a plain, ideally light background.
  2. Send it to ChatGPT or Gemini together with the prompt below:
Transform the provided photo into a professional passport/ID studio portrait.

Preserve exactly: the person's face, identity, facial features, skin tone, hair, age, and expression. Do not beautify, reshape, or alter their likeness.

    Apply:
    - Solid white background, fully even, no shadows or gradients
    - Even, soft, diffused studio lighting on the face — no harsh shadows, no blown-out highlights, no color casts
    - Neutral front-facing head position, eyes open, looking at camera, shoulders square, centered composition
    - Head-and-shoulders framing with appropriate headroom for an ID photo
    - Sharp focus, natural color, photorealistic studio quality
  3. Save the generated photo and upload it above — WayPass automatically crops and positions it to 684 × 883 px.

Privacy — the photo never leaves your browser

WayPass processes the photo entirely locally, on your device. No file is sent to any server. You can verify it yourself: open the tool, turn off the internet and try to crop a photo — it still works. That is proof, not a promise.

Questions and answers

What can this tool do?
What is 684 × 883 pixels, and what is it in millimetres?

684 × 883 pixels is the photo size (width × height) the MOS / inPOL system requires for an online residence-card application. It is the digital equivalent of the traditional 35 × 45 mm format. Upload any photo and WayPass crops it to exactly 684 × 883 pixels and saves it as a JPG.

Does WayPass produce photos that meet MOS requirements?

WayPass is not an official tool of the Office for Foreigners, but it produces files that strictly follow the official UDSC requirements (gov.pl/web/udsc/mos-qa): JPG format, 684 × 883 px, up to 2.5 MB.

My iPhone photo is in HEIC format — what do I do?

Upload it directly. WayPass converts HEIC to JPG automatically during processing — no extra steps.

Why is my photo blurry after cropping?

Usually because the source photo has a low resolution (below about 1000 × 1300 px). Take a new photo with a camera or phone up close in good light. WayPass warns you when the resolution is too low.

Can I crop the photo manually, without auto-fit?

Yes. After uploading you can drag the crop, change the zoom and rotate the photo yourself. The “Auto-fit” button is only an assist.

There are several people in the photo — how do I pick the right face?

WayPass detects all faces and asks which person to crop. Pick the right thumbnail. MOS requires a photo of a single person.

MOS says my photo is “too small” despite 684 × 883. What now?

Check: that the downloaded file is a JPG; that the file properties really show 684 × 883; try a different browser. If it persists, contact the UDSC office (gov.pl/web/udsc).

How do I install WayPass as an app on my phone?

iPhone: open the page in Safari, tap “Share” and choose “Add to Home Screen”. Android: in Chrome open the menu (three dots) and choose “Install app”. Once installed, the tool works offline.

Is the tool free and do I need an account?

Yes. It is completely free, with no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. It was free from day one and stays that way.

Which photo formats can I upload?

Upload JPG, PNG, HEIC (iPhone photos), WEBP or AVIF. Whatever the source format, you download a JPG at 684 × 883 px as required by MOS.

How do I make a karta pobytu (residence card) photo online?

Upload a photo from your phone or camera, WayPass auto-fits the crop to the MOS requirements, and you download a ready 684 × 883 px JPG. Everything online, in your browser, free and with no account.

What size is a residence card (karta pobytu) photo?

Exactly 684 × 883 pixels (35 × 45 mm ratio), in JPG, up to 2.5 MB. That is the size the MOS / inPOL system accepts for a residence card application.

What are MOS and inPOL?

MOS (Moduł Obsługi Spraw) and inPOL are the systems foreigners use to file applications such as the Polish residence card. They require a JPG photo of 684 × 883 px, which you can prepare with this tool.

Does the photo work with MOS 2.0 and inPOL?

Yes. WayPass produces a file that is exactly 684 × 883 px JPG, matching the current requirements of the MOS system (including MOS 2.0) and the inPOL portal. The dimensions are the same regardless of the system version.

Can I take a residence card photo with my phone?

Yes. Take a photo with your phone against a plain, light background in even lighting, then upload it here — WayPass crops it to 684 × 883 pixels and saves a MOS-compatible JPG. iPhone (HEIC) photos are converted automatically.

Do I need to print the residence card photo?

For an online application in the MOS / inPOL system you upload a digital 684 × 883 px JPG — no printing needed. A printed 35 × 45 mm photo is only required if you file a paper application at the office.

What resolution (DPI) does a residence card photo need?

For the digital file uploaded to MOS, the pixel dimensions matter — exactly 684 × 883 px — not DPI. DPI only matters for printing (35 × 45 mm). Upload a photo with enough pixels and WayPass prepares the file correctly.

Can I wear glasses or a head covering in a residence card photo?

Glasses are allowed only if they do not cover the eyes or cause glare; tinted glasses are not allowed. A head covering is permitted only for religious or medical reasons and must not hide the oval of the face. WayPass crops the photo but does not change these features — get them right when taking the photo.

I already have a digital photo, how do I prepare it for the residence card?

Upload it here. WayPass automatically crops and fits it to 684 × 883 px (the digital equivalent of 35 × 45 mm) required for the online residence-card application in the MOS / inPOL system, and you download a ready JPG. No photographer visit or printing needed.
